701 Award
Recruit, Retain, Graduate
The NCAA landscape is everchanging and University of North Dakota Athletics has taken the proactive approach to recruiting, retaining and graduating student-athletes with the creation of the 701 Award.
The 701 Award is an earned academic award that offers Fighting Hawk student-athletes a financial opportunity to attend and stay at UND, based on their academic and program standing. Your support of the 701 Award is vital to its sustainability.
The 701 Basics
- Student-athletes eligible to receive the award will be selected by their respective head coaches.
- The 701 Award is a separate financial award from a student-athleteβs scholarship or cost of attendance awards.
- All eligible UND student-athletes β including walk-ons β can receive a maximum of $5,980 annually.
- Each program sets benchmarks for student-athletes to meet.
- Funds are dispersed at the beginning of each new semester.
How It Works
-
First semester (fall): A first-year student-athlete starts at UND and it is determined they are eligible for the 701 Award; they agree to eligibility requirements for the 701 Award.
- Second semester (spring): If the student-athlete meets the requirements from the fall semester and returns to UND for the spring semester, they would receive half of their award total in the spring.
- Third semester (fall): If requirements from the previous spring semester are met and the student-athlete returns to UND for their second year, they would receive the other half of their award.
The University of North Dakota is one of the first and one of the few athletic departments in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, National Collegiate Hockey Conference and Summit League to offer this type of academic award.
