A Note from the CEO - May 26, 2020

DeAnna Carlson Zink

I hope you all enjoyed your Memorial Day weekend. Whether you were at the lake or sheltering at home, I trust that you had a relaxing and fulfilling holiday.

Angel Fund Update
In case you missed it, I had a letter to the editor regarding the UND Angel Fund published Saturday in the Grand Forks Herald. In the time since the letter was submitted to the paper, we had a successful match push that got us over the $100,000 mark for the fund! I am so thankful for the alumni and friends who have contributed to the fund, which is helping financially desperate students with direct grants for their emergency needs. The stories they have been telling when applying for funding have been heartbreaking, and their thank you notes have been so genuine and full of gratitude.

Since the last Insider News, we’ve seen the virtual graduation of nearly 2,000 UND students. In the traditional post-Commencement email we send to new members of the alumni family, I urged the new graduates to stay connected to their alma mater even during this time of social distancing. There is much that alumni of this great University can do to help these graduates as they embark on their career journeys. You can view the video sent with the email here.

Andy and Josh
By this time next week, we’ll have a new president in place at the University of North Dakota. Dr. Andrew Armacost will be working remotely from Colorado for the first few weeks of June. Having spent quite a bit of time with Andy since his appointment in December, I’m very excited to have this thoughtful, compassionate and intelligent leader at the helm of our alma mater. You are going to like him!

A special thanks to Dr. Joshua Wynne for his excellent handling of the University as its interim president. I am so thankful, giving the unforeseen situation that we’ve found ourselves in, that Josh was appointed to the role nearly a year ago. His knowledge and leadership have been critical during this difficult period, but let’s not forgot how well he was doing in guiding UND before all this began. Thank you, Josh!

And thank you all for the things you do to make the student experience at UND top-notch. Here’s wishing you a wonderful summer.
