Shane Hersch, ’13, ’15

Director of Gift Planning

WHY I WEAR GREEN: I jumped at the chance to come back to Grand Forks and work for the UND Alumni Association & Foundation. This city and University have had such a big impact on my life and have become a second family. Thanks to my job, I get to meet amazing people who share those same feelings.

While building on tradition, Shane looks to the future. As the Director of Gift Planning for the UND Alumni Association & Foundation, he specializes in working with our alumni and friends interested in making planned, deferred, or estate gits to the University of North Dakota. He holds credentials as a Certified Gift Planning Associate and a Fellow in Charitable Estate Planning.

Shane loves to travel and visit new places, which serves him well as he travels around the country meeting UND alumni. While visiting new cities around the world, Shane discovers and experiences the best food he can find. In the warmer months, he loves to golf and tries to be outside as much as possible. When it’s colder, he enjoys movies and finding the best new shows to watch. Currently, he’s spending a lot of his time renovating his first home in Grand Forks.

• BA, History, University of North Dakota

• MS, Higher Education, University of North Dakota

• Certified Gift Planning Associate (CGPA)

• Fellow in Charitable Estate Planning (FCEP)

As a former graduate and student assistant with UND Men’s Basketball, Shane knows the value of team. Among his best memories is being a part of the back-to-back Great West Conference Tournament Championship teams in 2011 and 2012. Now, working for the UND Alumni Association & Foundation, he is proud to have been a part of a couple of record-breaking teams. In 2019, he was part of the team that set the record for total fundraising with $67.7 million raised. In 2018, Shane assisted with the College of Arts & Sciences’ best fundraising year ever.
