Dear Alumni and Friends,

After the fun of Potato Bowl USA Week and the excitement of the Hawks’ big win over Northern Iowa, it’s time to look forward to Homecoming!

We are thrilled with the week we have put together with traditional events like tailgating and the parade and new experiences like a downtown pep rally Wednesday evening.

The alumni awards banquet Thursday night will honor our Sioux Award for Distinguished Achievement and Leadership recipients (Jody Feragen, ’78; Jack Marcil, ’63, ’68; Mark Sanford, ’66, ’76; and Sarah Vogel, ’67) and our Young Alumni Achievement Award recipients (Meghan Compton, ’06, ’10; and Paul Sallach, ’03). You can read the bios of our recipients in the current issue of the UND Alumni Magazine or online.

Another big event during Homecoming Week will be the grand opening/ribbon-cutting celebration for the Nistler College of Business & Public Administration building. Our lead donors, Werner and Colleen Nistler, will be on hand for the festivities and we are thrilled to show off this building to alumni and friends. Make plans to attend Friday, Sept. 30, at 11 a.m.

UND Alumni Magazine
Due to an ongoing paper shortage, the printing run of the most recent issue of the UND Alumni Magazine was split in two. If you haven't received your copy, look for it in your mailbox in the coming weeks. In the meantime, please enjoy it online!

This issue is "The Food Edition." Inside you’ll find profiles of UND alumni who are food entrepreneurs. Food Network star Molly Yeh, who just received an honorary degree from UND, also shares a recipe for a spinach and artichoke chicken tater tot hotdish.

Remembering Merrifield
For nearly a century, Merrifield Hall has anchored the quad at the University of North Dakota. One of the most iconic campus structures, its hallmark stairwells, benches, windows, and gargoyles have welcomed generations of UND students.

As UND prepares to celebrate the first 93 years of Merrifield Hall, students, alumni and friends are asked to share their stories. What do you remember about your time in Merrifield Hall? Did you meet a long-time friend there? Have a particularly interesting class or memorable professor? Share your memories at https://bit.ly/merrifield-memories.

Tidbits
Some other things that I’d like to pass on to you:

  • If you’d like to watch my 2022 State of the UND Alumni Association & Foundation Address, you can do so here. I was so happy to announce that we had our second-highest fundraising fiscal year ever!
  • We also held an endowed faculty recognition ceremony in late August. You can watch that ceremony online as well.
  • The UND Alumni Association & Foundation is looking for an Associate Vice President of Prospect Management & Research. This data-driven strategist will assist us in maximizing our operations and will work to enhance our fundraising performance. You can find the job description on our career center webpage.
  • The UND Strategic Planning Committee is looking for feedback on its proposed Mission, Vision, and Core Values.

The arrival of Homecoming is always a great reminder of what we all love so much about the University of North Dakota. I am grateful for all that you do to make this University special.

Sincerely,
