August 8, 2022

Dear Alumni and Friends,

We are just a couple of weeks away from the start of the fall semester. Where has the summer gone?

As has become a tradition during the first week of school, I will be giving my State of the Alumni Association & Foundation Address on Tuesday, August 23.

The Address is a chance to share our fundraising totals from the fiscal year that ended June 30 and our aspirations for the current fiscal year.

This year, we are also celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the grand opening of the Gorecki Alumni Center. Did you know that we have raised just over $450 million in our first nine years in the building? On August 23, you’ll find out if we have passed the half-billion-dollar mark for the decade.

Be sure to RSVP today to attend the Address on Tuesday, August 23, at 4:30 p.m. A special thanks to our sponsors: UND, the City of Grand Forks, and Happy Harry’s Bottle Shops.

Memorial Village renderingMemorial Village

You should be aware of another great event that week, the groundbreaking for the Memorial Village project.

Memorial Village is a public-private partnership for a five-story structure on the site of the old Memorial Stadium grandstand that will house coaching staff, athletic administration, student-athlete academic services, and feature market-rate apartments. Memorial Village is projected to be completed in 2024 and will positively impact the lives of our student-athletes daily, along with their coaches and academic support.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be an outstanding opportunity to celebrate the new development and visualize the future of UND Athletics in partnership with our developers.

The ceremony is Thursday, August 25 at 1 p.m. at the corner of N. Columbia & 2nd Ave N. RSVP by August 18.

Now is the time to start getting excited about Homecoming, which is just seven weeks away. Some highlights of the week include the grand opening celebration for the new Nistler College of Business & Public Administration building, the UND Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet, and we’ll present the Sioux Awards for Distinguished Achievement & Leadership and the Young Alumni Achievement Awards at our annual alumni awards banquet
